For sale is an original 1939-1945 Defence Medal, a campaign award from the Second World War. This medal was issued to members of the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces as well as civilian services (Civil Defence, Home Guard, etc.) for non-operational service and home defense.
​The front features the bareheaded effigy of King George VI, facing left, with the inscription: GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX F:D:IND:IMP.
​The back shows two lions flanking a crowned oak sapling with the dates 1939 and 1945. At the bottom, it reads "THE DEFENCE MEDAL."

​With original symbolic ribbon. The green represents "this green and pleasant land," the orange represents the fires of the Blitz, and the black stripes represent the blackout.
​Excellent vintage condition with original ribbon. Metal has a natural patina.
​The medal material is Cupro-nickel (standard British issue).
