A wonderful humorous Victorian illustration showing a classical education scene with school figures, books and references to Latin and Greek. The work has excellent fine line detail, expressive character drawing and the distinctive satirical charm associated with 19th century English illustration.

Irving Montagu was a well known English illustrator, painter, war artist and correspondent, connected with period publications including The Illustrated London News and Punch.

The drawing is signed Irving Montagu within the artwork and appears to be an original hand executed pen and ink piece rather than a later reproduction.

Presented in an older black frame with grey mount.

Approx size including frame 38.5 x 34.5 cm.

Condition is antique condition with age related foxing, marks to the paper, wear to the frame and backing. Please see all photos carefully.
