Thanks, though it is a lot of money so might be best to clarify the markings and provenance in the ad.

Collins has surviving relations so they might be able to help you verify the provenance you were supplied if who gave it to who in turn and when that happened is known.

Thanks. Would be great if you could share the names and dates as those might be needed when checking the provenance. Any photos of the markings might also help.

Owned/used by Collins, not worn by him. Handed down to his nephew and from there to the owner who in turn later sold them the an Irish Auction hse from which I purchased them

I ask because the photos I've seen of men arrested after the rising show them guarded, but not handcuffed. Around 3,500 were arrested by the military then and I didn't hear of another time Collins was arrested. While promonent later, I'm not sure I understand why or when he would have been handcuffed.

Am wondering if it is possibly a case where an acquaintance of a volunteer posessing them led to a misunderstanding later? Some homes seem to have kept hiatts which were not connected to the RIC, and they were occasionally passed around.

Hiatts are very common so could you provide more information about the provenance to justify the price?

Perhaps what, where and when is the connection to Collins? Who owned them since?
