John Bruton Medal
Produced in Germany one of a series done on EU PMs or guys running their Governments. It's gold clad copper housed in its own protective case. By 1998 John was no longer Taoiseacht but headed on to a career as RU ambassador in the UN.
Historical Context
The medal honors John Bruton's tenure as Taoiseach (1994–1997), during which he oversaw the critical preparation phase for Ireland's entry into the European Monetary Union. Ironically, by the time the medal was dated (1998), he had recently moved to the opposition, but his role in the "Celtic Tiger" economic boom and the Peace Process made him a central figure for this European commemorative set.
