The Ugoos AM6B+ is special because it's essentially the only affordable TV box that correctly decodes Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL (Full Enhancement Layer) — the same format used on UHD Blu-ray discs — and does so without the "red push" artifact that plagues the Nvidia Shield or the HDR10 fallback that the Apple TV forces on Profile 7 content.

This magic comes from a specific combination:

The Amlogic S922X-J SoC is "fully unlocked" for all DV profiles out of the box, unlike newer Amlogic chips where that capability has been closed off.

A leaked Dolby Vision kernel (dovi.ko, reportedly from Amazon) plus a community-modified CoreELEC (Kodi-based OS) installed on the box's eMMC storage activates the full FEL decode path.

Full lossless audio bitstreaming (Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, DTS-MA) passes through untouched to your receiver.

In practice this means bit-for-bit Blu-ray remux playback with the highest-fidelity HDR image your DV-capable TV can display — something no other box at this price (~$170–200) can match. The trade-off is that you must install CoreELEC yourself (a one-time, well-documented process), and the box is a local-media player only (no Netflix, YouTube, etc.). Despite being a 2021 model, it remains the community's top recommendation years later because the CoreELEC + AM6B+ combo is rock-solid and mature, while newer Ugoos boxes on different chipsets can't replicate the DV7 FEL capability.
