Youngblood Issues # 0,1 & 2 Rob Liefeld (1992) Image Comics
First 3 issues of Youngblood inked by Rob Liefeld
Youngblood is a superhero team that starred in their self-titled comic book, created by writer/artist Rob Liefeld. The team made its debut as a backup feature in the 1987 RAMM #1 before the next month appearing in the one-shot Megaton Explosion #1 before later appearing in 1992 in its own ongoing series as the flagship publication for Image Comics.
Issue # 0: In the summer of 1988, officials brief the U.S. President on the encroachment of Iraqi military forces on the Kuwaiti border, and he agrees to send Battlestone’s Youngblood team to stop it. Backed by U.S. forces, the team easily defeats the Iraqi troops. Battlestone gives the order to move on, but a colonel named Boggs disobeys, insisting on searching nearby tunnels for Iraqi munitions, only to be killed by a booby trap. A Lt. Gamble blames Battlestone for Boggs’s death, and Battlestones punches him, accidentally killing him. Chapel and Diehard subdue Battlestone, and the team returns to the U.S. Days later, the government fires Battlestone from Youngblood over the incident. The following year, Cougar and Sentinel introduce new team leader Shaft to his Youngblood team. The team then poses for a photograph.
Issue #1: When Jeff spots a thief grabbing a handbag from someone nearby, he runs after him. Tackling the man, he is about to be shot by an assassin on a nearby rooftop, but when Shelly shouts a warning, Jeff grabs a pen from his pocket and throws it at the assassin, hitting him in the neck. Checking the assassin, Jeff can find no ID. He gets swarmed by media crew from channel SNN, who had been following him all day.
Issue #2: In D'khay, a team who call themselves the Berzerkers, made up by Battleaxe, Cross, Grey, Psi-Storm and Wildmane, are trying to rescue a man named Jackson Kirby from an army of robotic beings named the Death Squad controlled by a mastermind named Darkthornn. After beating the guards, they find Kirby, who has freed himself. They mention they've lost their teammate Darcangel. They escape through a "crash tunnel", a portal that crosses space-time. Meanwhile, Darkthornn is watching them, telling his subordinate that "The Disciples" won't be stopped in their mission and vowing that the prophecy will not come to pass.
Also in Issue 2: 1st appearance of Shadowhawk.
