MacBook Pro 15" 2017 For Parts MacBook Pro 15" 2017 For Parts Macbook Pro

Selling my 15" MacBook Pro (2017), 512GB, 2.8GHz in Space Grey for parts.

It stopped working suddenly in November. A repair shop checked it and suggested it may need a screen replacement, but this was not confirmed. I decided not to repair due to cost.
The device has been professionally data wiped and is ready for sale.

Top and bottom casing are in very good condition. Some small cosmetic damage to a few corners (see photos).

Sold strictly as non-working / for parts or repair. No returns.

Message me with questions. Collection only.

@phackwer: Hi there, thanks for your comments. Unfortunately I’m not the techy type so I’m only selling this Mac, not looking to repair it myself. :)

ANd, yep, the Flexgate is a dead corner: you either replace the whole screen (300 euros at least just for the screen replacement), or you go "mad scientst" mode and try to do it yourself. The cable itself you get for less than 10 euros (the pair, so, around 5 each - or cheaper if you want to wait months to get it).

Mad Scientist mode... soldering with a microscope (also, that will break really really soon, soldering like that is not a reliable/flexible way to fix this)

A bit more Mad Scientist mode....

I mean, it is an interesting way to learn about Macs. It's been years that I hear about the problems with Macs and their flax cables. First time was when there was that white macbooks and a friend of mine had to replace the battery cable, as in that models they had some sort of oxidation problem.

Macbooks are great but they start to be a problem around 8-10 years old. Also, Apple abandoned the intel platform for good this year. Few macs get the 16-26 MacOS versions. It's a shame, but those machines are really good for enthusiasts who wants to run PC OS (Windows/Linux/BSD). The hardware is hight quality and will still run for many years.

I have a similar here, but it works with external monitor. The 2016-19 model has an issue know as Flexgate. The cable that sends signals to the backlight cracks at some point. In my case, it I open it before 30’ I can see the screen working fine, with backlight and all. Have you tried connecting it to an external dock/usb hub with HDMI? Or external screen with Display Port/USB-C? If the machine still works/turns on, you can use it as a media center connected to your TV. Does it turns on?
