The Orbea 40 Hardtail Mountain Bike in Blue/Red/Black and Ocean Green Yellow is the second bike Orbea’s adult mountain bike range. It comes with the same frame as the MX50 but has upgraded gears and suspension to make it more capable off-road. The MX 40 is available in a huge range of sizes in both 27.5” and 29” wheel options.
27.5” wheels are available on the smaller frame sizes. They keep the stand over height on the bike low and also make the bike more manoeuvrable when riding off-road. The larger bikes are available with a 29” wheel which roll faster, making you quicker on the road and off-road. In the middle of the range you can choose which wheel size you want.
The 40 is built round an AL6061 aluminium frame designed specifically for use with hydraulic disc brakes. The tubing used to create the frame is carefully shaped to add strength where you need it without adding extra weight. It comes with internal cable routing for a clean and tidy look and has all of the mounting points you need for panniers and luggage racks so it will double up for commuting duties as well.
To make the 40 more off-road capable it comes with 2×9 speed Shimano gears, rather than the 2×7 speed on the MX50, so you get 18 rather than 14 gears total. It also has a beefed up suspension fork with 30mm rather than 28mm uppers. This makes the fork stiffer so you get more precise handling when riding off-road.
