Welding Inspector - Wexford
Role Overview
Our client is seeking to recruit a detail-oriented Welding Inspector to ensure that all welding and fabrication activities comply with applicable standards, specifications, and internal quality procedures. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining compliance with EN1090, relevant welding standards, and customer requirements across stainless and carbon steel fabrication projects.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect welding activities during fabrication to ensure compliance with EN1090, approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and relevant welding standards (e.g., ISO 9606 - Qualification Testing of Welders/ ISO 15614- Welding Procedure Qualification where applicable).
Perform visual inspection (VT) of welded joints on stainless steel and carbon steel assemblies.
Verify that welders are qualified and working within approved Welder Qualification Records (WQRs).
Review and verify fabrication documentation including WPS, WPQR, inspection test plans (ITPs), and material certificates.
Identify weld defects and non-conformances and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Coordinate with production teams to maintain quality requirements while supporting efficient fabrication processes.
Support and coordinate non-destructive testing (NDT) activities where required (e.g., dye penetrant, ultrasonic, radiography).
Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and traceability documentation in accordance with company procedures and EN1090 requirements.
Assist with internal and external quality audits and certification inspections.
Promote a strong quality and safety culture across the fabrication workshop.
General Quality Inspections of fabrications.
Qualifications & Experience
Relevant certification in welding inspection (e.g., CSWIP Welding Inspector, IWI, or equivalent).
Experience inspecting stainless steel and carbon steel welded fabrications.
Strong understanding of EN1090 structural steel requirements.
Knowledge of welding processes such as TIG, MIG/MAG.
Familiarity with welding standards and quality systems (ISO 3834, ISO welding qualifications, etc.).
Experience reading engineering drawings, weld symbols, and fabrication specifications.
Understanding of NDT methods and inspection procedures.
Good attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
Desirable Skills
Previous experience in a structural or architectural steel fabrication environment.
Additional NDT certifications (VT – Visual Testing/Inspection, PT - Penetrant Testing (Liquid Dye Penetrant Inspection), UT – Ultrasonic Testing , or MT -Magnetic Particle Testing .
Knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001).
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
