Thank you. Yeah I'll definitely change the battery

@metzz I think your device is perfectly fine. The only thing I’d recommend is replacing the battery if you plan to use it regularly.

I’m just trying to give you an idea of what you might need to actually enjoy the music, rather than spending another month waiting for some part to arrive.

Thanks I really appreciate that. I thought maybe it was broken.

@metzz It’s also possible to install a modification that will allow you to use the charging cables you already have.
If you need more detailed information or help, I’m always happy to help.

@metzz Hi,
To go into a bit more detail — back then USB couldn’t provide enough voltage to charge the player, which is why the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations charged via FireWire. However, the 3rd generation could still use the standard 30-pin connector for data transfer.

You’ve got a few options: from using original cables (which can sometimes cost more than the player itself), to getting an adapter from AliExpress for around €15–20 that will allow you to charge the player via USB.

Hi. Sorry for bothering you but what kind of cable did you charge it with? I just picked up one in a carboot sale over the weekend and the two ipod cables I have won't charge it.
