You can make a usb with an installer for macOS Big Sur on it and it will install to hard drive just fine. I’ve done it before on another Mac from a similar year

@dylanosg I’m not 100% positive I’ll be honest with you. I previously was on this version through an ssd external drive. However my ssd did crash on me, this was simply due to an old ssd being used and using a cheap one for a long period of time

Can be updated if you make a USB installer for it. Pretty sure these can run up to macOS Big Sur (2020)

@gary.kavanagh.1276 hi there, it is currently on Mac OS X 10.9.5, which is OS X Maverick. It’s an older software. It is unfortunately stuck on this software, however it is possible to update it through running a newer software off an SSD. That’s what I was doing before. Hope this helps
