Thorens TD160 Super Turntable with SME 3009 Series 3 Tonearm, all Mint Condition and Boxed

I honestly don’t think you’ll ever see a better example of this iconic dream team Thorens / SME combination. Doesn’t get any better than this, end of. I’d really really love to keep this as it’s so very special and unique, but I just picked up a high-end Nottingham Analogue turntable I need to fund so it’s with a slightly heavy heart that I tell you that….


…both the Thorens TD160 Super turntable and SME 3009 Series 3 tonearm are in absolutely perfect, mint ‘time capsule’ condition with little if any signs of wear. Clean as a whistle, fully-serviced just a few months ago, working perfectly and sounding absolutely fantastic. Original boxes for both the turntable and the tonearm, full packaging, documentation and accessories. The SME tonearm alone sells for €700-800 on eBay, although most appear to be in Japan which obviously adds more cost in import taxes and postage. I can’t actually find a comparable TD160 Super turntable. There’s a few out there alright but none in such perfect condition as this let alone with all of the original packaging etc. File this one under ‘Hi-fi Holy Grail’…


The turntable and the tonearm were professionally serviced, tested and set-up just before Christmas… springs checked and adjusted, oils done, new high-quality Thakker drive belt fitted etc. I’ve been using the turntable regularly since then and it’s absolutely perfect and of course sounds fantastic. I have an Ortofon Om 5E cartridge fitted at the moment, which I chose because it can so easily be needle-switched to level-up to an Om 20, Om 30 or Om 40 stylus if you really want to go for it. I also had a Dynavector MC cartridge on there and that sounded amazing too, especially as the tonearm has the fluid damping trough upgrade fitted. The black paddle is currently installed but the different-sized grey and white trough paddles are all there in the tonearm box too, along with all of the other original SME box accessories including weight plates, tools, cartridge alignment protractor, user manual and other documentation…along with even the original plastic sleeve they all came in! The Thorens packaging is also 100% original and complete, from the box with the lovely original postage stickers still in place to both the upper and lower shaped foam protective packaging, cardboard sub-platter protector and even the original lid wrapping. It’s absolutely all there…

As it's such an iconic pairing I'd love to keep the turntable and tonearm together ideally, but if you're interested in buying the tonearm only or the turntable only I may be tempted if the offer is good...
