Sanyo MGR66 Cassette Walkman Player

Manufactured on 15 March 1985 — the mainboard itself dates back to 1985. That makes this a 41-year-old machine. I was genuinely curious to hear what kind of sound a cassette player this old could still produce!

All servicing details are shown in the photos. I believe I can offer a level of detail and care that is hard to find with vintage cassette players.
“It works” is not what I’m aiming for. My aim is higher — I want it to work perfectly.

1. Motor serviced and lubricated, with a metal flywheel for stable tape transport.
2. Tape head carefully serviced and cleaned, with both left and right channels working beautifully.
3. Speed calibrated using a 3kHz calibration tape to ensure the correct standard tape speed. This is extremely important. With vintage cassette players, if the tape speed is even slightly off, listening to music can become a terrible experience.
4. Made in Korea.

So, where can you find a vintage cassette player that you can actually feel confident about?
A cassette player from the 1980s may still “work”, but without proper servicing and careful calibration, you are unlikely to get the listening experience these machines are capable of.
This is what I can offer — not simply a player that works, but one that has been properly serviced, checked and set up for listening.

When you come to collect, I will provide test batteries and a cassette tape so you can listen to the player yourself before buying it.
