Minidisc Sharp MD-MS701H (S) - Boxed Complete - Reads/Records - Needs Servicing

For sale is a Sharp MD-MS701H portable MiniDisc recorder in excellent cosmetic condition for its age.

Cosmetically the unit presents very well. It has minor marks consistent with careful use but overall is in excellent condition. Battery compartment is clean with no corrosion.

Features Sharp’s slot-in MiniDisc mechanism and backlit LCD remote.

Original Sharp AD-S31BT 3.6V lithium-ion battery (included for completeness, reads 0V and does not charge)

Functionally:
Powers on normally
Reads discs quickly and seeks tracks without issue
Records successfully (no TOC errors encountered)

Known issues:
During playback, intermittent digital “pops” / artifacts are present on any disc (including prerecorded discs). These occur randomly and are not tied to specific track positions.
Recordings made with this unit have audible distortion in the right channel, which is permanently written into the recording.

Based on my testing, the unit likely requires electronic servicing (audio / power section). I have not attempted any repairs, not my skill level.

It is not suitable as a fully reliable daily-use recorder in its current state.

This is a complete and very clean example, ideal for a collector, enthusiast or someone comfortable servicing vintage electronics.

Priced accordingly.
