Overview:
The original KEF Coda (Type SP1034) was introduced in 1971 as a foundational, entry-level bookshelf loudspeaker. Developed from the groundbreaking Cresta design, it became highly popular for packing premium, accurate British audio into an economic and compact package. The classic "Coda" name holds so much heritage that KEF recently revived the moniker for their modern Coda W wireless active speaker system.
The LS3/5a Connection: The 1970s Coda is highly regarded by vintage audio enthusiasts because it shares the exact same driver configuration—the iconic B110 woofer and T27 tweeter—as the legendary, BBC-licensed LS3/5a broadcast monitors. While the Coda uses a simpler crossover network (SP1035) and a lighter cabinet, it provides a remarkably identical, mid-forward vocal sweetness at a fraction of the cost.
