Thanks very much for the suggestion and for taking the time to explain it. 😊 I really appreciate it. I’ll have a proper look at the VU3PRO as well. It does look like a more suitable solution for what I’m trying to achieve.
Thanks again, and all the best! 👍🎶

@d0min0s: The D1 amplifier is an amplifier with a VU metering function (more like a cool gadget) so I highly recommend Douk Audio VU3PRO Amplifier/Speaker Selector VU Meter 2-IN-2-OUT from https://doukaudio.com/
is now -10% for new order😉👍

Thanks for the suggestion! 😊 I actually looked at the VU3Pro as well.
My main concern is keeping my vintage NAD Monitor Series system completely untouched sonically. I’m not looking for another amplifier — I already have the NAD 1300 preamp and two NAD 216 THX power amplifiers, and I’m very happy with the sound.
I mainly want something with nice-looking VU meters that I can feed from the Tape Out, completely outside the main signal path.
I’ll have a closer look at the VU3Pro you suggested. I appreciate you pointing it out — it’s always good to talk to someone who understands the audio side of things. 👍
I may still consider the D1 because I really like its display, but I’ll think about which solution fits my system best. Thanks again!

Hi, from your answer I get the impression that you’re an audio enthusiast too, so I’m sure you’ll understand my concern. 😊
I have a vintage NAD Monitor Series system — NAD 1300 preamp with two NAD 216 THX power amplifiers — and I absolutely don’t want to compromise or colour the sound of that system.
I’m interested in the Ampapa D1 mainly because of the digital VU meters. My intention is to use it only as a visual VU display, taking a signal from the Tape Out of the NAD 1300, completely outside the main audio path. The 216 THX amplifiers and the speakers would remain connected exactly as they are.
I’m a bit obsessive about keeping the original sound of the NAD Monitor Series intact. 😂
The D1 looks really nice and I think it would look fantastic with my NAD setup, but I want to make absolutely sure I’m not going to introduce anything into the main signal path that could affect the sound.
If everything is as described, I’d be very interested in making an offer.

@d0min0s: Yes. The Ampapa D1 can be powered on with nothing connected to its speaker outputs, and you can feed it an RCA signal and use the digital VU meters.
The D1's RCA input, display/VU-meter circuitry, and power amplifier output stage are separate functions. The manufacturer documentation does not specify that speakers or a dummy load must be connected for normal operation. The VU meters monitor the input/audio signal, so they can operate without speakers.

For your intended setup
You can do:
RCA source → Ampapa D1 → no speakers connected
Then:
Power the D1 normally.
Select RCA input.
Play music.
The digital VU meters should respond to the left/right input signal.
You can leave both speaker terminals completely empty.
The manual specifically states that in dual-VU mode the meters display the left and right channel audio levels.

One important point
The D1 uses a TPA3255 Class-D power stage, and its rated speaker output is designed for a connected 4–8 Ω load.

So, while normal operation with no speakers connected appears to be fine, I would avoid:
turning the volume to maximum with no load,
repeatedly connecting/disconnecting speakers while powered,
experimenting with the speaker terminals,
shorting the + and – speaker outputs.
If your goal is essentially to use the D1 as a VU-meter display for an RCA source, that's a reasonable way to use it.
If you want, I can also explain whether the D1's VU meters respond to the RCA input before or after the volume control, which is useful if you're using it purely as a visual VU meter.

Can the Ampapa D1 be powered on and used with the RCA input and digital VU meters only, without speakers connected to the speaker outputs?

Ah that's grand thanks, bit unsure about the price when comparing online, ill keep an eye on the ad
