@joss: they were bought in Spec Savers. They are not locked and can be freely used by you. They work on their own, and you can download the Phonak App and use your phone to control settings and stream music to them from your phone via Bluetooth. Hope that makes things clear.

They also work without the app. They have volume up down button. Signal processing enables clarity improvements of speech etc. Hope that's of help.
