@Truck guy: Might not match up as one has a clutch and flywheel and the other has a torque converter.
IVI engines were something customers used in the past as they could get vehicles collected and e,ngines fitted.

If i boght the same engine from a 2009 but mine is 2010 mines automatic the doner is manual could that work or would it have to be from another automatic

@Truck guy: Was a mechanic for 50+ years and retired and selling off stuff. Dont get out much and no travelling.
Handicapped now as cannot do anything now.
It can tell if combustion gasses in coolling system as liquid changes colour.
No change in colour could be stuffed rad or dodgy stat.

@Truck guy: If the egr was blanked off so as not to have combustion gasses inside it should not release gasses into the cooling system.

So the egr is by passed on my van so im sure the only think it could detect is the head ?

@Truck guy: It is for smelling combustion gasses in the cooling system , if head gasket was gone overheating and more pressure in water hoses.
Not sure on EGR and possibly a water connection involved. Deffo worth googling issues that have been found before on your model as could be a common issue and cheaper repair than a head gasket.
