Blacksmiths Mortice Punch
Before the introduction of the arc welder, gates and railings were assembled using mortice & tenon joints. A sharp chisel was driven through the hot iron followed by this tool which widened the slot into a tapered rectangular mortice. Joints made this way will last hundreds of years.
