This is an enhanced Fender amplifier:

The main power-amp chip (TDA2050) burned out (perhaps the most common point of failure) and was replaced with a new one. The reason for this will likely be overheating because of an insufficient heatsink combined with an energy impulse (think electric guitar and power strumming).

I have seen an ultrasonic power amplifier manufacturer replace a large fancy multi-finned (good for steady state heat dissipation) heatsink with exactly the same type because of a similarly burned out power amp chip, and to no avail, the new one quickly failed too. Their next replacement however was simply a slab of aluminium, very thick near the chip for impulse cooling, and this did the job.

So, the Frontman 15G heatsink near the chip was thickened from *** 2mm to 12mm *** with a slab of aluminium, a factor of 6 improvement (see photos) and this will carry the heat away much more effectively.

It now works like new again and has a power chip that stays cooler than the original.
