ALEX attenuator

ALEX attenuator ALEX attenuator Guitar Amps

Legendary Attenuator and One of the best out there. Perfect for non master amps to get that wonderful power output crunch at low volume.
This is one of the original Alex Ortner units before the company was sold to Scumback Speakers which sell for 499$
These are extremely high quality in both sound/tone and build...as good as any fryette power station. I had to sell all my tube amps due to illness so this has to go also.

8ohm, 100w Max.

Info:
"The Scumback DBL is a reactive load attenuator that attenuates (limits) the signal from your amp to your speakers so that you can get cranked guitar amp tones at reasonable volumes without having the cops haul you to jail.

Formerly the "Alex Attenuator".

Attenuation from -3, -6, -9 and -12db stepped increments.
In the -12db position, two more controls are engaged. One is a four position treble adjustment control, which allows you to tailor your treble response at bedroom volumes for different pickups and player taste. The second is a variable decibel level from -12db down to no output at all.
Line out jack w/level control to send the signal to other devices (mixer, etc).
The DBL does NOT need a power source.
It's dimensions are 11" wide x 8.5" deep x 5" tall. Weight is 11 lbs.

In this case if your amp is 4 ohms it nneds to use a 4 ohm attenuator so i don't think the Alex would be the correct choice in your case. I'd err on the side of caution just to be on the safe side. :)

Thanks for the detailed response
I don't understand the final bit about bypass as my speaker is 4 ohm and the amp is powering a 4 ohm speaker
Cheers

so a 16 ohm alex going to a 8 ohm cab would be fine as would this 8 ohm alex going to a 4 ohm speaker. One thing you have to be careful of though is to not switch the alex to bypass as then your 8 ohm amp would be going directly to a 4 ohm cabinet which would not be ideal. Hope that answers your questions.

It's impprtant that your amp output is 8 ohm going into this atftenuator. KIt apparently doesnt matter as much going from this unit to the speaker. this is what i found online "Always best to match the head to the attenuator. If you trust a mis-match with a speaker cab you can trust it with the Alex. What doesn't matter is a mis-match of the speaker cab one step to the attenuator."

I'd appreciate that

I've a twin reverb 65 with one 4ohm 15" speaker. Do you know what an 8ohm would do or is it minute?
