(unstable/faulty) Sapphire AMD RX 7900 XT Reference GPU

(unstable/faulty) Sapphire AMD RX 7900 XT Reference GPU (unstable/faulty) Sapphire AMD RX 7900 XT Reference GPU Graphics Cards

Currently, it boots but I assume is either unstable or faulty, potentially is the card or my 750w PSU that doesn't like it.

This GPU had issues back in June 2025 around when I bought it, I had repasted it with PTM7950 a week prior to this issue, it crashed and wouldn't POST and only showed a VGA light.

In February 2026 (recently), I tested the card and it worked again and well under GPU stress tests and had equal performance before comparing my screenshots on Cyberpunk and 3dmark scores
A few days later it froze and showed a gray screen with 4 vertical blue lines. And showed the same red VGA light as in June

Maybe VRAM issue?
Maybe it could be repaired but I'm not too sure
It may work fine on another PC but I haven't tried it, because it worked again 6 months later, not sure if it is fully broken or partially faulty.

Attached are photos of the card reopened after I repasted it back in June, it seems to be okay, no burn marks or anything.
2 missing non essential screws, see pics

@muppetkiller I'm 70% sure it's the card I have a nvidia card that replaced it and I've had no issues with it, thought it could be the ram, I haven't heard great stories of this amd GPU unfortunately

Are you sure the issue is your graphics card ? I had the exact same issue on my RTX3070 and was convinced there were memory issues on the card but turned out to be a defective RAM slot on my motherboard. Try switching to a single stick of ram on your board and test each slot.

@wabco Hi, yes luckily I did take a photo ages ago and forgot to add it, I added it now to the last photo there 👍

Hi,
Do you happen to have a photo of the artifacts or the grey screen with the blue lines when the card was failing?
It would really help me understand the issue
Thanks!

@webblade Thanks, I'll let you know if I do

If you are not going to repair it after your tests are complete let me know if you want an offer on it. Hopefully something simple you can sort yourself 👍

@Philipp610 Thank you for the advice, I've always just quickly opened furmark but completely forgot about occt, I don't have time to test it now but I'll definitely try this later on

Run OCCT memory test on it. Make sure your current usage + total test % does not exceed 100% total. In other words if windows uses 1/10gb Vram set test parameters to no more than 85%. If your Vram is bust it'll start telling you about it. Won't stress ur psu. Helped me diagnose a faulty 1070ti

@webblade Oh that would make sense, I wonder how much it would be to repair the dram

Your symptoms are pointing to failing gddr6 chip or a power issue to the chip. Also could be cracked solder beneath the GPU. The first I can fix but the second is above my abilities. For that reason I wouldn't offer you much more than the pre

I'm not sure if it's just because of my 750w PSU or anything. But running stress tests does work fine on it, and it seems to just crash randomly, I have seen it crash on the desktop not doing anything.

@webblade Hi, the card was only opened for a repaste then after it had issues it was reopened to examine for visual defects (which I didn't see any).
The card last I checked 2 months ago boots to OS (with my previous adverts comment) but it might crash and not want to boot again. Seems to be a cycle where it boots, crashes, doesn't post, then a few days later it boots again.

I see you've had this card disassembled. Have you done any soldering/desoldering on the board or Is it still factory clean solder? Is it still posting at this moment?

@Lyosha The times it wasn't booting it didn't work regardless of what cable but it does work with HDMI and Display port.

I have mainly been using Display port before however

Have you tried using a different hdmi or dp wire or port?
