Vintage British Draughts & Chess Set c.1960 - Made in England

Vintage British Draughts & Chess set, dating approximately to the 1950s/early 1960s.

A genuine mid-century British family game with the original red presentation box, folding DRAUGHTS AND CHESS board, 24 draughts pieces and original printed rules.

The rules card is marked MADE IN ENGLAND.

The board has particularly nice period artwork, featuring chess and draughts pieces against a black-and-cream chequerboard design.

Woolworths’ historical archive records combined chess and draughts boards with cardboard boxes of wooden pieces as popular games in its British stores during this period, making this a good example of the inexpensive mass-market board games of the era.
