Electronic Shutter: It was Nikon's first professional camera to feature an electronic, stepless shutter, offering speeds from 8 seconds to 1/2000 second.
Aperture-Priority Auto Exposure: The camera allows the user to set the aperture, and the camera automatically selects the appropriate shutter speed in "A" mode.

Modular System: The F3 line is known for its interchangeable viewfinders and focusing screens, allowing for customization. The HP viewfinder can be purchased separately and added to a standard F3.
