The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham (Classic British Science Fiction Paperback)

The novel follows Bill Masen, a biologist who has been temporarily blinded after being stung by a triffid, a dangerous plant species he was studying. After a spectacular meteor shower, most of the world's population becomes blind, leaving only a few sighted individuals, including Bill, to navigate the chaos that ensues. As society collapses, the triffids, which were previously cultivated for their valuable oil, begin to prey on the remaining humans. The story explores Bill's struggle for survival and his efforts to find other sighted people, including Josella Playton, as they confront both the dangers of the triffids and the breakdown of social order.
