Original blue decorated cloth with gilt titles and decoration on the cover and spine. 634 very clean and bright slightly age-toned pages, speckled foxing on the endpapers and occasional page within. Boards slightly rubbed and faded with time and bumped on the corners and spine ends consistent with age but remain firm and intact. A scarce edition. (GT947)

Written by English novelist Richard Doddridge Blackmore, noted as one of the most famous novelist in England in the late nineteenth century. 'Lorna Doone' was first published in 1869, selling just 300 out of 500 copies. It was then published the following year in an inexpensive, singular volume, and became widely popular.
The novel is set in the late 17th century in Devon and Somerset, around Exmoor, and it tells the story of Lorna Doone, her romance and her interesting family history.
