The Prelude to Dune series begins four decades before the events of Dune, with an eager Crown Prince Shaddam plotting to succeed his aging father Elrood IX, young House Atreides heir Leto becoming close with the ruling family of the important technology world Ix, and the Bene Gesserit scheming behind the scenes to create the Kwisatz Haderach.

Many characters from the original Dune novel reappear, including Lady Jessica, Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, the Twisted mentat Piter de Vries, and Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV. The trilogy follows various plot threads, such as Shaddam's rise to the Imperial Throne, the ongoing feud between Houses Atreides and Harkonnen, and a Bene Tleilax conquest of the planet Ix.

Cover illustrations by Gerry Grace, a renowned illustrator who has worked on other Dune novels, Stephen King, Warhammer 40k etc
