Spider Diesel Tuning Box BMW N47
This is a Spider Performance Diesel Tuning Box, often called a plug-and-play tuning chip or piggyback ECU. The label “2.0d 177” indicates that it is mapped for a BMW 2.0-litre 177bhp N47 engine.
I was given this by a 'petrol head' friend but I've never used it. It's perfectly clean, no damage etc. I'm not an expert but from reading around:
How it works
------------------
This unit does not reflash the ECU. Instead, it sits between the fuel rail pressure sensor and the car’s wiring loom and modifies the sensor signal so the ECU increases rail pressure → more fuel → more torque & power.
Photos
----------
-Fuel rail pressure sensor plug (common Bosch 3-pin style)
-Male/female passthrough so it simply plugs inline with the existing sensor
-Control box where the tuning map is stored
The long corrugated-sleeved harness is designed to run from the fuel rail area to a dry mounting point in the engine bay.
Typical _claimed_ gains
---------------------------------
-For engine (177hp BMW N47):
-Stock: 177bhp / 350Nm
-With tuning box: ~205–215bhp / 400–430Nm (depending on settings)
Pros
-------
-Easy DIY install (10–15 minutes)
-Reversible (unplug and car returns to stock)
-Doesn’t permanently modify ECU
Cons / Warnings
-----------------------
-Crude compared to real ECU remap (can increase rail pressure too much)
-Potential for injector wear or DPF issues if pushed hard
-May be visible to BMW diagnostics depending how monitored
