Yamaha SG1820

Yamaha SG1820 Yamaha SG1820 Electric Guitars
€1,800

The new SG features a handmade set neck structure using advanced Japanese woodworking techniques, a body and neck made of African mahogany, and an arched maple body top. The new SG satisfies the needs of modern musicians and has completely new, uncompromising specifications. The professional and stadium-grade guitars that Yamaha has previously produced for artists are finally within reach of ordinary players.

-Body material/neck joint
While retaining the maple top/mahogany back material composition and the SG's iconic double cutaway design, the SG1820 body has been improved to achieve the sound, playability, and looks that today's guitarists are looking for.

The arch shape of the body top has been improved to draw a sharper curve than before. The body top, where the bridge and tailpiece are located, is made of thick maple to catch the string vibrations, and the maple material is gradually thinned from there toward the outer periphery of the body, resulting in efficient transmission of string vibrations to the entire body and optimal weight balance.

In addition, the contour cut on the back of the body that was applied to the SG1000/2000/3000 has been eliminated to improve the fit of players who play the guitar at a high position. This is no longer necessary as many players currently hold the guitar at a low position, and we prioritized the benefit of improving the response of the low mids by making the back flat and increasing the mass of the mahogany.

-Fingerboard
Since many SGs made in custom shops at the request of professional guitarists use rosewood fingerboards instead of the traditional ebony fingerboard, we have adopted carefully selected high-quality rosewood for the fingerboard of this new SG. The warm and well-balanced sound produced by this material can be said to match the modern music scene.

-Headstock
The headstock has been made smaller than before to balance the weight with the body. The traditional "flower pot" inlay has also been resized accordingly.

-IRA (Initial Response Acceleration)
Players know that "playing into" a guitar is important. It is said that playing a guitar for a long time improves the sound. The reason is that the stress between the wood of the neck and fingerboard, between the wood and the paint, between the wood and the hardware, etc., become familiar and resonate as one.

I.R.A. (Initial Response Acceleration) is a technology that eliminates the stress between the paint and the wood by giving the finished guitar its own vibration. This treatment puts the guitar in the same condition as if it had been played for a long time.

The SG1820 is the main model of the SG series that can be used for various rock sounds all-around, and is equipped with a Seymour Duncan '59 humbucker that achieves a well-balanced humbucker sound.

It has the smooth midrange and rich high range that are characteristic of vintage humbucking pickups. In combination with the SG1820, it produces a warm and deep vintage tone.
