In production from ‪1980-83‬ at the original Fender Fullerton factory the "STRAT" was an upgraded version of the regular trim USA Stratocaster model.
Designed by Gregg Wilson, then chief of guitar R&D, with the help of Dan Armstrong serving as a consultant, the STRAT aimed to blend classic features with contemporary electronics to rejuvenate the Stratocaster concept. 
As well as featuring a return to pre CBS specs of a 4 bolt neck joint and smaller headstock it had premium enhancements such as real 22k gold plated brass hardware including a high mass synchronised tremolo bridge designed for enhanced sustain. Also included was the new hotter "X-1" bridge pickup with a two-way rotary selector (replacing the lower tone control) that allowed for extra  pickup switching combinations (nine in total).
At its time it was the most advanced Stratocaster ever produced and such was the overall cost of production it is thought Fender actually took a loss on each model sold leading to its inevitable discontinuing in 1983.

Condition : excellent vintage - some light age related wear but overall in great all original condition with no breaks, repairs or mods. Plenty of life in the frets. Comes complete with it's original hard case and manual. Replacement trem arm.
