I have stripped the finish off the neck and finished with one thin coat of gunstock oil.
Reshaped and painted the headstock.
Levelled, crowned and polished the frets with neck removed and set straight. (Stewmac tools used)
Truss rod, bridge action and intonation adjusted.
Electrics all working and cavity shielded with copper tape.

What appears to be dirt accumulation on the fingerboard is nickel silver dust from the fret level. This was somewhere between an aesthetic choice and not being bothered to tape off the fingerboard.
What appears to be rusted frets is the remnants of a horrible translucent orange paint/stain that originally covered the neck.
