Hamer Centaura USA 1990

Hamer Centaura USA 1990 Hamer Centaura USA 1990 Electric Guitars

1990 USA made Hamer Centaura, a really very nice and quite rare superstrat. Hamer's quality should need no introduction.

To the best of my knowledge, all original apart from the baseplate of the Floyd, the two Floyd mounting posts and the neck pickup.

For some reason, a previous owner filed the leading edges of the bridge baseplate which was undisclosed at the time of buying. The threads of one of the mounitng posts had also stripped, also undisclosed. These were replaced with correct German made Schaller parts, not cheap. A small chip came off the paint when the mounting posts were done, see pics. It now stays in tune longer than your perm will stay curly. The original baseplate is included, however unless you enjoy being wildly out of tune, this is best used as a paperweight or worn around the neck on a swish gold chain.

I believe it's an ash body, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. Pickups are Seymour Duncan JB (later known as the SH-4) in the bridge, which we can all agree is the finest bridge pickup on this or any other planet, SD SSL-1 in the middle and a DiMarzio Pro Track in the neck (installed by a previous owner, I do not have the original SSL-1).

Controls are vol, tone, 5 way switch and a mini-toggle "thickener"

Like all good, old guitars, it has been played but is in generally good condition. Everything works as it should but there are a few small dinks and blemishes, to be expected on a vintage 36 year old guitar. Please see pics.

Comes with Hamer case, bar, strap with Dunlop straplocks, card, etc.

Lowballers, please don't bother. This site is full of reissues and fake-wear replicas. This guitar, however, is the real deal.

Pics taken today and indicative of condition. Based in South Tipperary. Any questions, please ask.

@willowpad Hi, I'm up in Dublin the odd time but not with any regularity, nothing planned at the moment. Could meet around Carlow if you can get out that way from Wicklow?

Hey man, this is a lovely guitar, by any chance are you up in the Dublin / Wicklow area much?

Photos 2, 3, 4, 5 and 17 show the scratches quite clearly, I thought. The frets are fine, plenty of life left. I suspect they're not the huge girders which come on modern RGs and Pro Mods, however, but am not an authority on such things. With this in mind, I suspect this isn't the guitar for you. I'd recommend this RG might be more what you're looking for. Lovely guitar at an excellent price. All the best - https://www.adverts.ie/electric-guitars/ibanez-prestige-rg1570-2004/33446058

well how about the frets? have they been crowned to a point where it's a quasifretless? can you post a pic of the scratches on the finish? what price did you have in mind there's a prestige and a pro mod around that ballpark.

Hey man, I really like the way you've presented all the issues with the guitar. I think it's very straightforward and honest, and I'm willing to take a punt. I was a huge fan of Vernon Reed, and I'm looking for a shred-style guitar for myself. I have a few concerns regarding neck, truss rod...frets: have they been crowned too many times? How tall are those frets? Are they in good nick? what's the action? Also, regarding the Floyd, does it work perfectly? Does it sit flush? Is the intonation okay? Lastly would you accept $650 for the guitar? I might be considering buying it for my birthday in April.

@darrenw5094: Hi, it's a good deal thinner than a US strat, but not super thin like an Ibanez Wizard. Personally I think it's a lot more comfortable. Closest I can compare it to is an EBMM Petrucci.

Is the neck thin or C shaped like a fender strat?
