6 Westerns Box Set: 3:10 To Yuma/ Bend Of The River/ Broken Trail/ Open Range/ Rooster Cogburn/ Silverado [DVD]
A collection of six classic Westerns.
In '3:10 to Yuma' (1955) hard-up rancher Dan Evans (Van Heflin) is holding ruthless outlaw Ben Wade (Glenn Ford) at gunpoint waiting for a train to Yuma where the authorities have put up a $200 reward. However, Wade offers him $10,000 to set him free. The bounty would ease Dan's financial difficulties, but Wade's offer would set him up for life. Thus begins a cat-and-mouse wait for the 3:10 train with Evans' wife pleading for him to take the money and save himself and Wade's gang attempting to free their boss.
In the classic 'Bend of the River' (1952) Glyn McLyntock (James Stewart) is a man with a past. As he attempts to help a group of Missouri settlers cross the Oregon Trail to the Columbia River Basin, he is double-crossed by Emerson Cole (Arthur Kennedy), the man he thought of as a friend. However, he finds assistance in the form of farmer's daughter Laura Baile (Julie Adams) and San Franciscan gambler Trey Wilson (Rock Hudson).
In 'Broken Trail' (2006), as Print Ritter (Robert Duvall) and his estranged nephew Tom Harte (Hayden Church) travel the slow road to reconciliation, they reluctantly find themselves forced to care for five abused and abandoned Chinese immigrants while simultaneously attempting to deliver a herd of horses across the plains. Soon confronted by a gang of malevolent kidnappers who intend to abduct the girls and use them for the own nefarious purposes, Print and Tom determine to keep their young charges out of harm's way while ensuring that their valuable delivery reaches its intended destination. Duvall also heads the cast
in 'Open Range' (2003) as Boss Spearman, who, along with his partner, Charley Waite (Kevin Costner), and their two helpers, Mose (Abraham Benrubi) and Buttons (Diego Luna), has been leading a quiet nomadic life driving cattle across the plains for the last ten years. Their peaceful existence comes under threat when the local cattle rancher, Baxter (Michael Gambon), suddenly warns the foursome to get off his land.
In 'Rooster Cogburn' (1975) John Wayne returns in the sequel to 'True Grit'. This time around, the rough and ready lawman teams up with prim missionary Eula Goodnight (Katharine Hepburn) who wants to find the men who killed her father.
Finally, in 'Silverado' (1985) various pioneers try to establish a future in the American West as four strangers shoot it out in the crooked town of Silverado. Kevin Kline and Danny Glover star.
