Map’s name, author and original date of publication are discretely detailed in small print in the bottom left hand corner in several languages (including Russian - Prague was part of the Soviet Union in 1975). Details of the Czech publishing house and printing technique are detailed on the right.

Queen Margaret of Spain was also the Hapsburg Queen of Austria, which is perhaps why Daniel Adam featured her in his map. Adam was based in Veleslavin, a district in the Bohemia capital of Prague.

He was a Czech translator, publisher and writer born in 1546. Adam studied at the University of Prague and was a professor there from 1569 to 1576. He was forced to leave the university when he married the daughter of the publisher Jiri Melantrich of Aventino. At that time, professors were required to maintain celibacy.

Adam began working at the Melantrich family printing business, eventually taking over its operations. He and his collaborators translated and published maps alongside many historical, religious, and scientific books.
