Meteorite complete stone cut in 2 and polished 17 grams

Up for your consideration is a gorgeous complete meteorite called NWA 869.The NWA is short for Northwest Africa as the meteorite was found in the Northern Sahara desert about 1999/2000.By slicing the meteorite open we are able to look inside it to view the extraterrestrial bounty that lies within.

Let me be absolutely clear here, there is NOTHING on this Earth that looks exactly like a meteorite when sliced open.Meteorites are divided into chondrites and achondrites depending on whether or not there are chondrules present.Chondrules date back to the formation of the solar system and a meteorite in your hand will be the oldest rock you have ever held.When you move it around, the metal flecking looks like stars in the night sky.Only meteorites contain chondrules and metal flecking.You don't even need a microscope to see the chondrules in this particular specimen,they are readily abundant to the naked eye although a jewellers loupe is recommended for full visual enjoyment.

This meteorite weighs 17.19 grams and measures 26 x 23 x 21 mm.

The cut surfaces are highly polished up to 30,000 grit for stability and viewing purposes using a one micron polishing compound after nearly a dozen previous sandpaper grits ranging from 100 to 3,000. Lots of time is spent on each meteorite.
