Tsar Ivan The Terrible IV Silver Wire Kopeck Moscow State 1547 1584
Post or collection
A few details point toward a kopeck of Tsar Ivan IV (“Ivan the Terrible”), struck after he took the title of Tsar in 1547:
The obverse shows the classic horseman holding a spear. The spear (kop'yo in Russian) is what gave the kopeck its name.
The reverse has the multi-line Cyrillic legend used on Ivan IV's kopecks, reading some variation of:
“Царь и Великий Князь Иван всея Руси”
(“Tsar and Grand Prince Ivan of All Rus”).
Coin's rider style and the visible letters fit the Ivan IV series better than the later Romanov issues of Mikhail or Peter.
