Roman Coin - Antoninus Pius

Roman Coin - Antoninus Pius Roman Coin - Antoninus Pius Coins

Big sestertius of Antoninus Pius struck on a 30mm flan and weighing 23.84.

OBV: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P XI, laureate bust right.
REV: ANNONA AVG COS IIII, Annona standing left holding grain stalks/corn-ears over modius and anchor.
RIC III Antoninus Pius 840

This coin has been cleaned, some surface porosity and small crack as seen on photos. Very hard to come by these large coins in any condition, this one is very fine for the type with great detail and almost complete obverse legend which dates it to 147-148AD, Rome. Annona was the Roman Goddess of grain supply, she is often portrayed on the reverse of coins from that period.
