Original 1797 Cartwheel Twopence - Great Britain
British Cartwheel Twopence minted in only 1797 by Matthew Boulton's Soho Mint.
Original Historic heavy copper 2 penny coin, known as the cartwheel because of their large size and thick rim.
This coin presents much better than typical and in a high collector grade.
Cartwheels coins being made of copper and of very large and heavy size makes these coins particularly vulnerable to marking damage, so most of these coins still around today (over 2 centuries on) are typically heavily marked worn and typically with many edge bumps.
When minted way back in 1797 the Cartwheel twopence weighed, 56.7 g (2 sterling ounces of copper)
This coin still weighs over 56 g , allowing for tolerance at mint, highlights how this coin has clearly been collector cared for down the centuries.
