Mad King Ludwig - also known as the Fairy-Tale King (der Märchenkönig in German) and the Swan King.
He earned these names because he withdrew from traditional politics to live in a romantic fantasy world, spending his fortune on extravagant, dreamlike castles like Neuschwanstein Castle and patronizing the composer Richard Wagner, whose operas often featured medieval swan and fairy-tale themes
