▪︎ These coins are considered political tokens from " The Troubles " in Northern Ireland. During the conflict members and supporters of the paramilitary groups defaced circulating currency as a form of political defiance. While the Loyalist/Unionist supporters typically targeted Irish coins and the Republican/Nationalist Supporters targeted British coins. These coins were then put back into circulation to make political statements. This became known as " The Currency War ".
