Description:
In 2023, France will host its second Rugby World Cup, following the 2007 tournament. This competition is the most prestigious rugby tournament in the world, and has been held every four years since 1987. To prepare for this major sporting event, Monnaie de Paris, in collaboration with the Rugby World Cup 2023, has launched a series of collector coins celebrating the sport.

This series is dedicated to some of the great European rugby nations, particularly the Anglo-Saxon countries from which the sport itself originated. France, England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland are featured on five Quarters (€1/4), while the sixth is dedicated to the Rugby World Cup 2023 emblem.

Ireland
In the middle of the coin is the tower of Trinity College Dublin.
On the right a rugby player is making a defensive gesture by holding the ball against himself.
On the other side of the tower, the flag of Irish rugby is represented on a shield in heraldry. The name of the country is written in English and in French, following the shape of the coin.

England
At the centre of the coin is the top of the Elizabeth Tower housing Big Ben, a reference to England.
On the right side of the design a player is running with a ball under his arm.
At the left of the coin, the English flag is depicted in heraldry on a shield.
The name « England / Angleterre » follows the outline of the coin.

Wales
On the bottom of the coin, the medieval towers of Caernarfon Castle are depicted.
A rugby player is depicted above the monument; he throws himself on the ground, ball in hand, as if to score a touchdown.
To the left of the design, the country's flag is shown in heraldic form as a shield.
It is surrounded by the name of the country: "Pays de Galles", in Welsh "Cymru" and in English "Wales“, following the shape of the coin.

Scotland
In the centre of the coin stands the Wallace Monument, Scotland's iconic landmark.
To the right of it, a determined-looking rugby player runs straight ahead, ball under arm.
To the left of the monument, a shield depicts the national flag in heraldry.
The name of the country is written in French and in English, following the shape of the coin.

France
At the centre of the coin stands the Eiffel Tower seen from below.
On its right, a rugby player in the midst of a run is holding the ball under his arm while holding out the other as if he was fending off an opponent.
On the other side of the tower, the French flag is represented on a shield in heraldry.
The name « France » follows the outline of the coin above and below the shield.

Emblem
The obverse features the official emblem of the competition, which will take place in France, with the phrase "Rugby World Cup France 2023" also present.
Around the logo, the map of France is broken down by stylised graphic elements.
