Reverse: Triple-towered castle rising over ocean waves, symbolically representing the Portuguese stronghold of Ceuta in North Africa.
The Ceitil is one of the most recognizable medieval Portuguese coins, minted in substantial quantities to support everyday commerce following Portugal's maritime expansion in the 15th century.
