​Reverse: Triple-towered castle rising over ocean waves, symbolically representing the Portuguese stronghold of Ceuta in North Africa.

​The Ceitil is one of the most recognizable medieval Portuguese coins, minted in substantial quantities to support everyday commerce following Portugal's maritime expansion in the 15th century.
