1943 Irish Half Crown
This 1943 half crown is rare.
This coin was among the last Irish Half Crowns struck in silver (750/1000). The final silver stiking of the half crown was in 1943. The 1951 issue was the first in cupro nickel. The decision to change the coin's metal content to cupro nickel was made before the 1943 coins were issued, so these coins and some of the 1942 coins were returned to the Royal Mint in London for melting.
A number escaped and these surviving 1943 Half Crowns are scarce. The Irish for Half Crown is Leat Coroin.
