1686 Irish Halfpenny, James 11
James a Catholic did not get on very well when he got the Throne in 1685. He gave the patent for minting these Halfpennies to John Knox Lord Mayor of Dublin. He fled to France in 1688 to acquire an army with which he managed to be defeated by his son in law at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.
