Unique Bofors shell case clock
This is a one of a kind vintage clock made in Germany in the 70’s.
This exceptional and quite unique clock is made from a shell casing from a Bofors 40mm L70 cannon and the dial is made of a heavy hand hammered copper sheet. The cannon comes from the German minesweeper M1085 Minden.
This ship was in service with the German navy from 1959 to 1975. Germany sold this ship to the coast guard of Georgia (formerly in Russia) in 1998 and it was renamed Ayety. Russian jets sank the "Ayety", length 45 m, and the "Tbilisi" of the Georgian navy in the port of Poti. While the latter is now almost completely submerged, the "Ayety" foundered with the stern, parts of the ship are still not flooded. The wreck was blown up by Russian forces after the invasion of Poti on Aug 19. It is to be doubted whether the ship will ever be back in coastguard service. The crew of 29 survived.
The "Ayety“ served as a mine hunting boat "Minden M 1085" for the German Navy from 1959 until 1997, thereby making 228.000 miles between Norway and Maroc. In May 1998 the former "Minden" was rebuilt for its new purpose and taken into the Black Sea on board of the dock ship "Condock V".
There is a label on the back detailing all of this. You are not going to find another one like it, a great conversation piece and full of historical references.
