Antique Optical Lantern Condenser Lens/Magnifier, Heavy Desk Piece, 6.25 inches, 2kg
A genuine antique condenser lens from a magic lantern (optical lantern), the forerunner of the slide projector, used from the mid-1800s through the early 20th century for public lectures, entertainment shows and early photographic projection. Often seen listed as a nautical “map/chart magnifier”.
The piece is substantial and solidly made and weighs just under 2kg. Today, pieces like this are popularly kept and sold as heavy, tactile desk pieces or paperweights, prized by collectors of magic lanterns, photographica and early optical instruments, as well as anyone after a genuinely old, substantial piece for a desk, shelf or study.
