Antique German Badische Mantel Clock

Antique German Badische Mantel Clock Antique German Badische Mantel Clock Clocks & Scientific Instruments

Antique German Badische Mantel Clock (c. 1895-1915). Housed in an attractive wooden case with hour and half-hour striking mechanism. The mechanical movement is intact and features the original balance wheel system, meaning it does not require a pendulum. Both springs wind fully via the backplate using an included vintage solid brass Size 4 key stamped 'Popular Progress - Made in England'. The strike train works perfectly and bongs the correct hours. The timekeeping side is healthy—the balance wheel and hairspring swing freely and tick for a minute or two when prompted—but it stalls due to old, hardened factory oil. It may just needs a standard clean and fresh oiling to run continuously. Cosmetically, the clock face is sealed behind a fixed glass wooden frame. The minute hand is currently loose on its spindle, and there are two small areas of missing oak veneer on the casing as shown in the photos. There is a small hole in the back door presumably to allow the clock to be hung on a wall. Perfect restoration project for a vintage enthusiast or hobbyist clockmaker. Collection from Castleknock.
