Antique French Fireplace Suit
An antique French mantelpiece (French: garniture de cheminée), most likely dating from the second half of the 19th century or the turn of the 20th century (Belle Époque / Napoleon III style).
The mantelpiece is topped with a full-figure female figure made of patinated metal (most often a zinc alloy, known as zincalloy or bronze). The figure holds ears of grain and a spear/staff, suggesting an allegory of agriculture, summer, or the Roman goddess of harvest, Ceres.
A pair of matching candelabra (multi-branched candlesticks).
An original winding key.
Case and base: Crafted from distinctive, veined pink marble. Fittings and feet: The ornate, ornately carved elements at the base and the dial are made of gilded brass or bronze.
Such luxurious sets were a staple in the living rooms of wealthy 19th-century homes. The clock is in working order, it strikes the hours but it runs very fast because it does not have a pendulum
There is a small chip of enamel on the dial near the left winding hole.
