I am continuing my effort to downsize, in advance of all our possessions having to go back into storage again in the next few months (the builders keep changing the dates!)

For sale here is a Fabulous Antique Regency/Victorian Chair, Recently Reupholstered in Bespoke Fabric, Wonderful Patina, Perfect as an Accent Chair in a Bedroom, Bathroom, Landing or Hallway

What a fabulous antique chair this is, the wood is very heavy, and most likely walnut, Rosewood or mahogany. There is a wonderful patina on the wood, especially the hand-carved back of the chair. You can just imagine how many pairs of hands have caressed the chair-back over all the years.

We have two of these chairs currently in our bedroom at the foot of the bed, but there really isn’t the room for them in our new house. Given that our belongings will have to go back into storage shortly, while the builders remediate our new house, I’m happy to sell this chair now – antique chairs don’t do well in storage!!

The Chair would have originally been a dining chair, part of a set of six or eight, but we have only used it as an accent chair, most often in our bedroom, sometimes on the landing or hall, and the odd time in the bathroom. Many of the photos show how this chair can be used for various purposes in different locations in the home.

The chair has lovely carved and turned detailed front legs, and plain sway-back curved back legs. The top rail of the chair back, is hand carved from a single section of wood and the aged patina on this top rail is stunning.

The chair was repaired (rather than restored) and reupholstered by the previous owner, but the wonderful patina was not touched or removed. The chair has a stuffover seat which is held in place with traditional webbing underneath. The bespoke fabric used, features prints of antique Japanese Safety Matches packets and boxes. The Fabric is called “Matchbox” by Andrew Martin. The upholstery is finished with traditional brass studs/tacks.

Condition: Please look at all the photos as they will inform re condition. This is an antique chair, probably about 150- 200 years old, so is not without the odd ding to the woodwork.
There are some “antique” woodworm holes on the underside, but these were treated by the previous owner, when the chair was reupholstered. There are no new holes and no holes at all visible when the chair is upright. There are some metal repairs (struts) to the underneath, to strengthen the seat/legs.
One leg has a small crack, which would need to be glued if the chair is to be in daily use. As an occasional chair, it’s been fine for us, as is.

Own a piece of history! If only this chair could talk!
Currently from a smoke and pet free home, but I can’t guarantee that has been the case for the last 150-200 years!!

Collection preferred, but delivery may be possible within Dublin 15 and maybe further afield, for the cost of diesel. No harm to ask, and I'll let you know if your destination is possible!
