Antique Armchairs
Beautiful pair of two matching antique tub / barrel-back armchairs with carved wood frames.
Dark-stained hardwood (likely mahogany or oak) frames show Gothic Revival details: spindled backs, carved crest rails with pointed arches/gothic tracery, turned arms/balusters, and square tapered legs.
Upholstered in multicolored floral tapestry/chintz (roses, daisies on tan), with exposed webbing slings and some fringing; seat ~50cm wide.
These are Victorian-era (c.1880-1910), British or Irish-made in the Aesthetic Movement or late Gothic Revival style. The balloon-like rounded backs and ornate carving are hallmarks of period parlor chairs.
The frames are solid with minor wear; upholstery faded/frayed at edges and has a tear exposing webbing - needs reupholstery.
Comfortable and charming.
